About Us

Get to know us!

We treat your pet like family.

We are a team of animal health providers, offering high standards of care for your companion animals. Each of us has been committed to the care of animals from an early age. At Cobequid Animal Hospital we have created a joint vision, offering the best of our knowledge, and continuously expanding that knowledge in order to improve the health of our patients.

Working together, with a variety of expertise and approaches available, we are better poised to tackle and resolve complex medical problems. We each have individual strengths, and together we foster the development of a variety of approaches to animal health within a scientific framework.

We strive to provide a high quality of service with high-quality tools. Our "soft tools" of knowledge and experience are deep and broad, and we are constantly engaged in continuing education. Our "hard tools" are a modern, well-equipped facility built in 2002 to replace the 30-year-old hospital which fell to a catastrophic fire.

Dr. Laura Hartman

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Hartman is an associate veterinarian at our practice. She spent her first year working in Porter’s Lake, and has since joined CAH to further develop her diagnostic and surgical skills.

Born and raised in Dartmouth, NS, she found herself initially following her passion for travel, and ended up working for a tour operator in Toronto, Ontario. It didn’t take her long to start thinking that something was missing. Realizing she has always loved animals growing up, and a lot of her travel destinations were specifically to see a variety of animals, she decided to pursue veterinary medicine. This took her to the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), where she graduated in 2019. After graduation, she made her way back to the Atlantic Ocean and is happy to be back home!

What she loves most about her job, is not only getting to work with and help animals, but also create strong relationships with her clients, it’s the best of both worlds. She handles each pet with care and respect, as if they were part of her family as well! She has a wide list of special interests, but a few are internal medicine, feline medicine, neurology and cardiology.

When not at the clinic, she enjoys relaxing with her partner Jeff and their three cats Lily, Whisper and Mr. Jim Business (for any Bob’s burgers fans) who is most commonly referred to as just ‘Sir’. You can often find them kayaking on the lake, or playing pickle ball with friends.
